About CSD files

The .CSD file extension is heavily fragmented and used by entirely unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it functions as a compressed game backup cache for the Steam platform, an ID card template for CardPresso, or a Computational Sequence Data file stored in the HDF5 format. Other known uses include Hancom Office crash recovery backups, Citavi settings, and legacy Singer embroidery machine designs.

This extreme fragmentation is the biggest disadvantage of the .CSD format. Because the extension is shared by software ranging from sound level meters to CAD drafting tools like CADSUPER FX2, no single program can open every file. If your file is an ID card template, it is entirely proprietary and requires a specific application license to edit. Standard web browsers and image viewers will immediately fail to open it.

When possible, users should convert these files to standardized formats. Steam cache files, which are internally just ZIP archives, should be extracted to standard folders. ID card designs are best exported directly from their native software to PDF or PNG for reliable sharing. Embroidery patterns should be converted to universal machine formats like DST or PES.

Because most .CSD files are closed, proprietary, or highly specific binary containers, they are notoriously difficult to convert using standard online tools. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system will inspect the file headers, show underlying text, and if it detects a supported embedded format (like ZIP, XML, or HDF5), viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CSD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SWN, PSD, PDF, CSP, JPG, CSM, CSDBE, CSV, CDR, PNG, VSD, DWG and TXT files.

FAQ

If you want to convert CSD file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Valve Steam or similar software from the "Steam Cache & Application Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to CSD, try Valve Steam or another comparable tool in the "Steam Cache & Application Data" category.

The CSD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CSD converter.
