About CRF files
The .CRF extension is a massive source of frustration because it is used by over a dozen completely unrelated software programs. The most common types are Overlord game resource archives (which are actually ZIP files under the hood), CryEngine compiled game assets, Crownix or SAP Crystal Reports designs, and M.E.Doc Ukrainian tax document containers. It is also used for WinMagic SecureDoc encrypted volumes and GeoVision surveillance video recordings. Because .CRF is usually a proprietary or closed format, it suffers from severe compatibility issues. You cannot simply open a .CRF tax document in a game engine, nor can you open a game archive in accounting software. Standard online converters fail completely because they do not know which version of the file you have. Furthermore, files like SecureDoc .CRF containers are actively encrypted and impossible to open without the original password and software. If you need to access the data, your best target formats depend heavily on the source. Game archives can often be extracted to PNG or WAV files. Reports and tax documents are best printed to PDF. This is a notoriously difficult file format to handle because often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system checks the file signature. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like a disguised ZIP archive, an XML dataset, or a Microsoft Compound File, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
