About ORF files
The .ORF file is an unprocessed, raw image captured by an Olympus digital camera's sensor. It contains all original image data, including white balance, contrast, and 12-bit or 14-bit color depth metadata, before any lossy JPEG compression is applied.
Because .ORF is a proprietary, uncompressed format, it presents significant handling challenges. These files are massive, often exceeding 20MB per image. They are strictly raw sensor data, meaning they cannot be opened natively by web browsers, embedded in HTML, or shared directly on social media. Relying on the original format usually means paying for expensive photo editing software subscriptions or using slow, manufacturer-provided desktop tools.
To make the image usable, you must convert it. For web publishing, social media, or casual sharing, convert .ORF to WebP or JPG. If you want to archive the raw data but avoid proprietary Olympus lock-in, convert to DNG (Digital Negative). For high-quality print production, export to an uncompressed TIF. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The ORF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ORF converter.
