About COPY files

The .copy extension is most frequently associated with copied assets or nodes from Unreal Engine. When developers copy elements like blueprints or materials inside the editor, the engine generates a UTF-16 (LE) text representation. Less commonly, a .copy file might be a renamed WebP image encoded with RIFF, a temporary synchronization file from Synology Cloud Drive, or a legacy Sony Ericsson protected content file. Leaving files with a generic .copy extension causes significant operating system confusion. Windows and macOS do not know which application should open them. For Unreal Engine snippets, reading raw nodes in standard text editors is cumbersome. If the file is actually a misnamed WebP image, standard image viewers will fail to render it until the extension is corrected, and WebP itself still faces compatibility issues with older software. To restore usability, conversion or renaming is necessary. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software. For Unreal Engine asset text, convert to TXT or JSON to review the node properties. If the file is a misidentified image, convert it to JPG for universal compatibility, or PNG to preserve transparency for web use.
