Convert PSK to another file type
To convert PSK skeletal meshes to another format, you need Unreal Engine or other 3D software.
Convert a file to PSK
To convert other file formats to the "Skeletal Mesh Data" file type, you need software like Unreal Engine or a similar tool.
About PSK files
The .PSK file format primarily functions as an Unreal Engine Skeletal Mesh. Developed by Epic Games, these files store 3D mesh geometry, bone hierarchies (rigging), vertex weights, and material assignments for 3D character models. They were the standard method for bringing characters from external 3D modeling software into legacy versions of the engine (Unreal Engine 1, 2, and 3). A secondary, less common use for .PSK files is as XML-based slideshow project files for software like NCH PhotoStage, Roxio PhotoShow, or Photodex ProShow.
Users typically need to convert .PSK files when migrating legacy 3D game assets into modern game engines like Unreal Engine 5 or Unity, or when trying to edit them in modern 3D suites like Blender. The format has notable disadvantages: it is an obsolete, proprietary format originally dependent on the deprecated ActorX plugin. It is entirely unsupported by standard web browsers, OS preview tools, or generic 3D viewer apps. Furthermore, slideshow .PSK files are equally frustrating; they only contain text-based XML paths pointing to local images and do not contain any actual media, making them useless if you transfer the file to a different computer.
The best target formats for 3D .PSK files are FBX or OBJ. Converting to FBX preserves both the mesh and the skeletal rigging. Converting to OBJ will permanently discard all bone structures and vertex weights, leaving only a static 3D mesh. Slideshow .PSK files cannot be directly converted to video formats like MP4 online because the media files are not inside the document.
This file format is difficult to open or convert online. Because .PSK is a specialized game engine asset with closed structures, standard online converters fail to parse it. Often, only the original 3D software with community-built import scripts can properly reconstruct the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as the XML text inside a slideshow project), viewing or data extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PSK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PSK file to FBX, OBJ, STL, UASSET, HEX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB or C4D, you can use Unreal Engine or similar software from the "3D Character Rigging Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to PSK, try Unreal Engine or another comparable tool in the "3D Character Rigging Data" category.
The PSK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PSK converter.
