About USX files

A .USX file primarily stores an Unreal Engine Static Mesh or a Unified Scripture XML document.

The 3D mesh variant, developed by Epic Games, contains static geometry for games powered by early versions of Unreal Engine. It is heavily used in classic titles like Lineage II. The major disadvantage of this format is its proprietary, closed nature. You cannot open it directly in standard 3D suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya. The files are binary and often encrypted or heavily compressed by the specific game developer.

The second variant is the Unified Scripture XML format, created by the United Bible Societies and SIL International for use in Paratext. While it is technically an XML text file, the complex hierarchical tags make it difficult to format or read outside of specialized translation software.

Converting .USX mesh files to standard OBJ or FBX formats usually requires specific reverse-engineering tools like UE Viewer (Umodel). Standard online converters fail to parse the proprietary game engine headers and variable compression schemes.

Because these formats are highly specialized, they are difficult to handle. Often only the original game engine or translation software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your USX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BLUEPRINT, COPY and UAX files.

The USX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our USX converter.
