About CHE files
A .CHE file is most frequently associated with Compucon EOS, a professional embroidery design system. These files contain vector-based stitch patterns, object coordinates, and thread color data used to instruct industrial embroidery machines. The format is proprietary, meaning it is not natively supported by standard image viewers or consumer embroidery machines (like Brother or Janome), which typically require PES or DST files. Users frequently encounter friction when trying to view these designs without the expensive Compucon EOS software, necessitating conversion to more accessible formats.
Beyond embroidery, the extension is also used by Fuzor, a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) tool by Kalloc Studios. In this context, the file serves as a simulation cache or project save, storing 4D construction schedules and 3D model data. A third, niche use case involves PerkinElmer (now Revvity) chemagic instruments, where the file functions as an automated extraction protocol for DNA/RNA purification.
For Embroidery users, the best conversion targets are DST (Tajima) or PES (Brother) for manufacturing, and PDF or PNG for easy previewing and archiving. Fuzor and PerkinElmer files are generally not convertible and must be opened within their respective native environments.

The CHE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CHE converter.
