About CDP files
A .CDP file primarily acts as a Trainz Simulator Content Package used by Trainz Simulator to distribute game add-ons, locomotives, routes, and scenery objects. Developed by N3V Games, these files bundle 3D models, textures, and scripts into a single archive. Alternatively, .CDP files function as Connected Devices Platform settings files in Microsoft Windows, formatting data in standard JSON to sync user activity across devices. Other rarer uses include Sony CD Architect projects, CD Plus information files, and ConceptDraw project files. The primary disadvantage of a Trainz .CDP file is its proprietary nature. Users cannot easily view the enclosed textures or 3D meshes without installing the heavy Trainz Content Manager software. If you simply want to extract a specific texture or audio file, the .CDP format acts as a closed box. Windows .CDP files, while text-based, contain complex system telemetry that is difficult for casual users to parse. When managing these files, users often want to convert them to standard archive formats like ZIP or extract the internal JSON, JPG, or WAV assets. However, standard online converters fail to process game-specific archives because they lack the proprietary extraction algorithms required by N3V Games. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system inspects the file, and if it detects a standard underlying structure (like the ZIP structure used in some Trainz packages or the JSON text in Windows settings), viewing or conversion to accessible formats may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CDP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CDP file to ZIP, RAR, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP or MAP, you can use Trainz Simulator or similar software from the "Game Asset Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to CDP, try Trainz Simulator or another comparable tool in the "Game Asset Package" category.
The CDP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CDP converter.
