Extract text from Conceptual data models (CDM)
To convert CDM Data models to another format, you need SAP PowerDesigner or other Database software.
To convert other file formats to the "Conceptual Data Model" file type, you need software like SAP PowerDesigner or a similar tool.
A .CDM file primarily contains a Conceptual Data Model generated by SAP PowerDesigner (formerly Sybase). These files store high-level, abstract database structures, business relationships, and architectural entities in an XML format. Alternatively, the .CDM extension is used for compiled Apple Core Data models in Xcode (as a binary plist), zipped e-learning projects by Cadmos, or legacy disk image layouts by NTI CD-Maker software.
The main disadvantage of .CDM files is extreme vendor lock-in. SAP PowerDesigner is expensive enterprise software, making it impossible for standard users to view the visual database architecture without an active license. Apple Core Data .CDM files are compiled binaries, meaning they are unreadable without developer tools and the original source project. NTI CD-Maker files rely on abandoned software from the early 2000s, locking away old backups.
To share database models, users must convert .CDM to PDF, PNG, or standard XML from within the host software. For NTI disk images, converting to ISO is necessary for modern virtual drive mounting.
Because these formats are either heavily proprietary, compiled, or completely obsolete, standard online converters fail to process them.
