About PDM files
A .pdm file is primarily a Physical Data Model file created by SAP PowerDesigner. It stores the physical structure of a relational database, including tables, columns, indexes, and constraints. The major disadvantage of the .pdm format is its proprietary nature and niche use. It requires expensive enterprise software to render the diagrams properly. Users without a PowerDesigner license cannot view the visual schema, making collaboration difficult with developers or stakeholders who simply need a diagram or a table list. The best targets for conversion are SQL (for database generation), PDF (for viewing diagrams), or XML (for metadata extraction). Converting database models is highly complex because they contain relational logic, not just raw text or standard graphics. Standard online converters fail to parse these schemas because only the original software can properly map the relationships to a visual output. We can identify the file format, inspect the internal XML, and show text content. Since our analysis detects this embedded format, data extraction is often still possible without a license.
