About BUP files

A .bup file acts as a critical fail-safe within the DVD-Video architecture, serving as an exact binary copy of the IFO (Information) file. Located inside the VIDEO_TS directory, these files contain navigation menus, chapter structures, and audio track data, but notably do not contain the actual video footage (which resides in VOB files). Users frequently encounter .bup files when attempting to rip old DVDs or when browsing disc contents on a computer, often finding that standard media players like QuickTime or Windows Media Player cannot open them directly. Because the file is purely metadata, attempting to "play" a .bup file results in errors. To make the content usable, the practical solution is not to convert the .bup file in isolation, but to convert the parent DVD structure. For modern playback on TVs and mobile devices, the best workflow is converting the associated VOB content to MP4 (H.264) or WebP for web use. For archiving the exact disc structure without physical media, packaging the files into an ISO disk image is the industry standard.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BUP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IFO, VOB, DVD, VIDEO_TS, VTS, MP4, VCD, BUF, BOP, DAT, CD, VTC and PUB files.
