About VTC files

The .vtc file extension typically represents a Chart and Grid Data file generated by Visual-Tools software, often used to store visual thinking charts, graphs, and structured layout information. These files allow users to save grid configurations and visual data arrangements, but they are notorious for being incompatible with standard office suites like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Because the format is proprietary, users cannot simply double-click to view the data, leading to significant friction when sharing insights or archiving projects.

A secondary but critical use of the .vtc extension is within the automotive industry, specifically for Vehicle Total Configuration files used by Volvo and their VIDA (Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales) software. In this context, the file contains encrypted or serialized diagnostic data essential for vehicle repair and software updates, which cannot be opened by standard text editors. Additionally, users may encounter .vtc files as Video Thumbnail Cache files generated by DVR systems or mobile apps, or as Visual Trading Console configuration files for the MetaTrader platform.

For Chart and Grid files, the goal is usually to extract the underlying data. We recommend converting these to CSV or XLSX for analysis in spreadsheet software, or PDF for static sharing. For Volvo diagnostic files, conversion is generally not possible due to encryption, though printing reports to PDF via the VIDA interface is a common workaround. For MetaTrader charts, exporting to CSV allows for external backtesting and analysis.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VTC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IFO, BUP, MP4, FINAL, IVT and ARR files.
