About B files
The .B file extension is heavily fragmented and used by several completely different applications. Most commonly, it acts as a saved game file for classic titles in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, such as San Andreas and Vice City, developed by Rockstar Games. These binary files store player progress, inventory, and location data. In modern game development, .B files often represent UnityFS game asset bundles created by the Unity game engine, holding compressed 3D models, textures, and audio. It is also used as a source code file for BASIC and the esoteric language Brainfuck, or as a legacy Btrieve database file. The primary disadvantage of the .B extension is its lack of standardization. Operating systems have no idea what software should open a .B file by default. Game saves are heavily obfuscated binaries locked to specific game versions, preventing cross-platform use. Unity asset bundles are proprietary and compressed, making it impossible to view models or textures without dedicated extraction tools. If it is a Btrieve database, the data is practically useless without a legacy database engine. To make this data usable, conversion or extraction is mandatory. For Unity asset bundles, convert models to FBX or OBJ and extract textures to PNG or WebP for broad compatibility. Text-based .B files can be safely renamed or converted to TXT to view in any text editor. If you suspect your file is a misnamed PDF, convert it directly to PDF to restore document formatting.
