About AWF files

The .AWF file extension is a proprietary format used in several distinct professional industries. The most common applications include Artis Claims Workfiles for insurance adjustments, Avaya Work Item Files for enterprise workflow management, and CAD Reinforcement Work Files used by Nemetschek Allplan. These files store session data, structural calculations, or workflow states specific to the software that created them. Internal analysis reveals that some of these files, specifically the Artis variants, are based on the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format (OLE).

These formats are highly restrictive. Because they are closed and proprietary, you cannot open them without an active, expensive software license or specific corporate infrastructure. Users frequently need to extract the raw data, text, or CAD parameters to share with clients or colleagues who do not use these specialized platforms. Standard web browsers and basic viewers completely fail to process .AWF files, making data extraction incredibly frustrating.

If you are dealing with an Allplan CAD file, the ideal conversion targets are DWG, DXF, or PDF for universal viewing. For claims or work item files, exporting to CSV, XML, or TXT is usually required to migrate the workflow data.

Unfortunately, this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the complex embedded data. Standard online converters cannot parse the proprietary logic. However, just drag and drop your .AWF file onto convert.guru to identify the exact format version. We can inspect the file, reveal underlying text, and show internal content. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AWF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AVIF, AFW, ARW, SWF, ZIP, XLSX, PDF and CFS files.

The AWF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AWF converter.
