Extract text from firmware archives (AFW)
To convert AFW archives to another format, you need Astro Command Center or other System software.
To convert other file formats to the "Hardware Firmware Update" file type, you need software like Astro Command Center or a similar tool.
The .AFW file extension primarily represents two entirely different formats: ASTRO Firmware files used to update gaming headsets, and ABB System 800xA or PCM600 control system project archives.
To open or flash Astro firmware files, users typically need the Astro Command Center. For ABB files, ABB Automation Builder or PCM600 is required. Other niche uses include firmware updates for Ai-Thinker IoT modules and BEC routers.
Users often look to open these files to inspect firmware contents or extract industrial project configurations. The main disadvantage is that these are highly proprietary, single-purpose binary formats. Astro files are locked to Logitech hardware, and ABB files are closed archives. Standard software cannot open them, and standard online converters will fail to process them into readable documents.
Because these are system-level files, direct conversion to standard visual documents like PDF is usually impossible. However, some .afw files (like ActiGraph firmware) are standard ZIP archives, and some ABB files use the Microsoft Compound format. You can sometimes extract their contents to BIN, TXT, or ZIP to inspect the raw data.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because the data structures are closed and undocumented. Often, only the original hardware or engineering software can properly read or export the data.
