Convert AUX to another file type
To convert AUX Auxiliary files to another format, you need LaTeX or other Data software.
Convert a file to AUX
To convert other file formats to the "Auxiliary Metadata File" file type, you need software like LaTeX or a similar tool.
About AUX files
The .AUX file format is primarily used as an auxiliary data file to store metadata that accompanies a main file. It has two dominant variations: a LaTeX auxiliary information file and an ERDAS Imagine GIS raster auxiliary file. In LaTeX, it stores cross-references, bibliography data, and table of contents information. In Geographic Information Systems (GIS), it stores spatial auxiliary data - such as map projections, image statistics, and color maps - for raster image formats like TIFF or IMG managed by software like ERDAS Imagine or Esri ArcGIS.
Users often attempt to convert .AUX files because they mistake them for the actual document or image. However, these files are companion data. A LaTeX .AUX file is plain text but only contains code references, not readable text. A GIS .AUX file is proprietary, encoded binary data that is completely useless without the accompanying raster image. These files are not supported by web browsers and are ignored by standard image viewers or word processors.
Because they are companion files, converting a .AUX file directly is rarely possible or useful. Standard online converters fail to process them because they do not contain standalone media or document content. LaTeX .AUX files cannot be converted to PDF or DOCX directly; the main TEX file must be compiled instead. GIS .AUX files cannot be converted to JPG or PNG.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it only contains metadata. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AUX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AUX file to USB, SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID or IMG, you can use LaTeX or similar software from the "Auxiliary Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to AUX, try LaTeX or another comparable tool in the "Auxiliary Data Storage" category.
The AUX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AUX converter.
