About XFT files
The .xft file extension represents a specific class of XML Form Template files used to generate dynamic documents. The most common variation is associated with XaitPorter (formerly Form-Solutions), used extensively for electronic government forms and complex tender proposals. Another significant use is the Adobe XML Form Architecture (XFA) template created by Adobe LiveCycle Designer (now part of AEM Forms).
Users commonly encounter problems with .xft files because they are not finished documents; they are merely the blueprints used to create a final PDF or HTML form. Trying to open an .xft file in a standard PDF viewer often results in error messages or blank pages because the viewer cannot render the raw XML logic. Additionally, these files are often locked into proprietary ecosystems like JustSystems XMetaL or legacy Adobe software that requires expensive enterprise licenses.
To make these files usable, the best approach is conversion based on your end goal. For archiving or printing, convert the .xft to PDF (or PDF/A). This 'flattens' the dynamic elements into a static view. If you need to extract the data structure or migrate the form logic to a new system, converting to standard XML or Text is preferred.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XFT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XFT file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use XaitPorter or similar software from the "XML Form Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to XFT, try XaitPorter or another comparable tool in the "XML Form Template" category.
The XFT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XFT converter.
