About ASD files
The .ASD file extension primarily represents a Microsoft Word AutoRecovery file. Created automatically by Microsoft Word, it stores a temporary snapshot of a document in progress to prevent data loss during sudden crashes or power failures. Less commonly, .ASD files are Ableton Live Sample Analysis files generated by Ableton to store acoustic metadata like warp markers and tempo for audio clips. You might need to convert an .ASD file if you are trying to recover lost text from a corrupted Word session. However, the format has major disadvantages. Microsoft AutoRecovery files are proprietary, system-dependent, and often locked to the specific user profile or crash instance, meaning they cannot be opened simply by double-clicking. Ableton .ASD files are equally frustrating for average users because they contain absolutely no audio data, only proprietary metadata, making audio extraction impossible. Standard online converters fail to process .ASD files because they are closed, proprietary cache files rather than standard media or documents. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or conversion to DOCX, PDF, or raw TXT may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ASD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ASD file to DOCX, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use Microsoft Word or similar software from the "Document Recovery and Analysis" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to ASD, try Microsoft Word or another comparable tool in the "Document Recovery and Analysis" category.
The ASD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASD converter.
