About ADS files

The .ADS extension is a multi-format container that creates confusion because it serves three completely different industries: fashion design, video game audio, and software development.

1. Audaces Garment CAD Pattern (Most Common)

If your file comes from the fashion industry, it is likely a Garment CAD pattern created by Audaces apparel software. These files contain vector-based 2D sewing patterns, grading information, and fabric cutting markers.

The Problem: The format is strictly proprietary. You cannot open it in standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or Adobe Illustrator without conversion.
The Solution: To share these designs with manufacturers or print them, you typically need to convert them to DXF (for universal CAD compatibility), PLT (for plotters), or PDF (for viewing).

2. PlayStation 2 Audio Stream

If you extracted this file from a PlayStation 2 game disc, it is a Sony ADS Audio stream. This is a raw audio container often used for background music (BGM) or cutscene dialogue.

The Problem: Standard media players like Windows Media Player cannot play this raw ADPCM stream.
The Solution: For listening or archiving, these must be converted to WAV or MP3. Tools like vgmstream are often required to decode the headerless audio data properly.

3. CyberLink AudioDirector Project

If created by CyberLink AudioDirector, this is not an audio file but a project file (XML-based references).

The Constraint: It contains instructions (edits, effects, timelines) rather than the actual sound. You cannot convert this directly to MP3; you must open it in AudioDirector and use the "Produce" feature to export a standard audio file.

4. Ada Specification File

In software development, this is a plain text file containing the "public interface" of a program written in the Ada language. These can simply be opened with any text editor like Notepad++.
