Convert a file to ANM
To convert other file formats to the "Skeletal Animation Data" file type, you need software like Autodesk 3ds Max or a similar tool.
About ANM files
A .anm file stores animation data. It is primarily used by 3D game engines and simulation software to define how objects or characters move over time. Common sources include games like League of Legends and software like Ansys Fluent or Autodesk 3ds Max.
The biggest disadvantage of the .anm format is extreme fragmentation. Because it is highly proprietary, an .anm file from one game engine will immediately fail to load in another. Furthermore, these files usually store only skeletal movements (bone transforms) or spatial coordinates, not the actual 3D mesh. You cannot double-click them to preview the animation in standard operating systems, and they are completely unreadable by web browsers.
To make these files usable in standard 3D workflows, you must convert them. For editing in general 3D software like Blender or Unity, convert to FBX or GLTF. For archiving raw motion capture data, convert to BVH. If you just need to share the animation visually, convert the rendered output to MP4 or WebP. Drag and drop your .anm file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing heavy software.

If you want to convert ANM file to GNM, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL or PLY, you can use Autodesk 3ds Max or similar software from the "3D Animation Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to ANM, try Autodesk 3ds Max or another comparable tool in the "3D Animation Data Storage" category.
The ANM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ANM converter.
