About ANG files
The .ANG file extension serves two distinct, high-technical purposes, creating significant ambiguity for users. Most commonly, it represents a Traffic Simulation Network file used by Aimsun Next to model urban mobility and road geometries. These files are proprietary and notoriously difficult to view without an expensive license, creating friction for civil engineers who need to share network topologies with stakeholders who lack the software. The file locks valuable node and section data inside a format that standard CAD tools cannot natively read.
Alternatively, in materials science, an .ANG file contains Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) data generated by EDAX OIM Analysis. While these are technically text-based, they contain massive grids of crystallographic orientation data (Euler angles) that can crash standard text editors like Notepad. Researchers often struggle to import raw .ANG files directly into data processing tools like MATLAB or Excel due to complex headers and hexagonal grid formatting.
Best Conversion Targets:
- For Aimsun Users: Convert to DXF or SHP (Shapefile) to overlay network data in AutoCAD or GIS software.
- For EBSD/Scientific Analysis: Convert to CSV or TXT to strip headers for easy parsing, or to H5 (HDF5) for high-performance computing.
- For Anghami Audio: While rarer, some users encounter cached .ANG audio files from the Anghami streaming service; these are DRM-protected and typically cannot be converted to MP3 without capturing software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ANG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ORK, CCM, RES11, CDN, TTD and NM files.
The ANG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ANG converter.
