About RES11 files

The .RES11 file is a proprietary binary result format generated by the classic MIKE 11 1D hydrodynamic simulation engine. It stores time-series data for river networks, specifically capturing Water Level (H) and Discharge (Q) across computational grid points.

Because .RES11 files are binary and strictly formatted for the DHI ecosystem, they cannot be opened in standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or text editors. This is a common problem for engineers who need to post-process simulation data, generate reports, or compare results with observed data in other tools. While the newer MIKE 1D engine uses the .RES1D format, many legacy models and archives still rely on .RES11.

For analysis, the most practical workflow is converting the file to CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or .DFS0 (DHI Time Series). This can be achieved using the legacy res11read.exe command-line utility, the free MIKE View software, or modern Python libraries like mikeio1d. Converting to CSV makes the hydraulic data accessible for graphing in Excel or ingestion into BI tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RES11 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ANG, CCM and ORK files.

FAQ

If you want to convert RES11 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use MIKE 11 or similar software from the "Hydrodynamic Simulation Results" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RES11, try MIKE 11 or another comparable tool in the "Hydrodynamic Simulation Results" category.

The RES11 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RES11 converter.
