Convert ORK to another file type
To convert ORK design files to another format, you need OpenRocket or other Data software.
Convert a file to ORK
To convert other file formats to the "Simulation Project File" file type, you need software like OpenRocket or a similar tool.
About ORK files
An .ORK file typically serves as a model rocket design and simulation document created by OpenRocket. Internally, most modern .ORK files are simply ZIP archives that contain structured XML data. This data dictates rocket components, motor configurations, and aerodynamic simulation parameters. A less common variant of the .ORK extension is a proprietary RIFF-based video file utilized by classic PC games like Battle Realms running on the Bungie Mythos engine.
The main disadvantage of the .ORK format is its highly specialized nature. Standard text editors cannot easily read the ZIP-compressed OpenRocket files, and the files are useless without the simulation engine to interpret the physics data. Similarly, the legacy game video variants are heavily encoded with obsolete codecs, making them entirely unsupported by modern media players like VLC or web browsers.
To share rocket designs with non-users, you must convert the .ORK file to PDF for static reports, or extract it to XML to parse the raw data. Legacy game video files require conversion to standard AVI or MP4 formats, which often demands niche modding tools.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it relies on specialized physics parsers or outdated game engines. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the ZIP archive or XML text - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ORK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ORK file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use OpenRocket or similar software from the "Model Rocket Simulation Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ORK, try OpenRocket or another comparable tool in the "Model Rocket Simulation Design" category.
The ORK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ORK converter.
