About ALB files

The .ALB file format is most commonly a Photo Album Project file. Various software applications, including ACDSee Photo Manager, MyPhotoAlbum, Photobox, and Magix PhotoStory, use this extension to save user-created photo books and slideshows. Secondary uses include compiled Lua scripts for the game ArcheAge, OFML product data libraries, and CAD reinforcement schedules for Nemetschek Allplan.

Users frequently need to convert .ALB files because they are proprietary project files, not actual image formats. A major disadvantage of the .ALB format is that it usually does not contain the original high-resolution photos. Instead, it stores absolute file paths to the images on your local hard drive, along with layout coordinates, text captions, and transition settings. If you send an .ALB file to someone else, or move your photos to a new folder, the album will break. Furthermore, these files require specific, often paid software to open. Some legacy programs like Seattle FilmWorks require paid workarounds to access old archives.

If you want to share your album, you should convert the project to a universal format like PDF for document viewing or JPG and MP4 for slideshows. Converting an .ALB to these formats flattens the layout. This means you lose the ability to edit the album structure later, but you gain universal compatibility across all devices.

Converting .ALB files is notoriously difficult because every developer uses a different, closed internal structure. An .ALB file from ACDSee is completely incompatible with an .ALB file from Magix. Standard online converters fail because they cannot process proprietary XML or binary project data, and they cannot access the local images linked inside the file. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the OFML version which is actually a standard ZIP archive, or Magix variants using RIFF containers - viewing embedded thumbnails or extracting data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ALB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ATF, ALBUM, ALBX, PNG, ZIP, ARD, ATT, ANC and NLB files.

The ALB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ALB converter.
