About NLB files

The .nlb extension serves two distinct, specialized purposes that often confuse users due to their incompatibility. The most common use (44%) is as a Nuclide Library file associated with the Nucleonica nuclear science portal. These files function as proprietary containers for "fingerprints" of radioactive isotopes (nuclides), storing critical data like half-lives, decay modes, and spectral energies. They are essential for researchers and safety officers but are effectively "black boxes" - you cannot view the raw data in Microsoft Excel or a text editor without the host software. The second common use is as a MyDraw Binary Library created by MyDraw. In this context, the file stores vector shape collections (stencils) used for diagramming. Users often struggle when trying to migrate these libraries to Microsoft Visio or share them with colleagues who don't have MyDraw installed.

For Nucleonica users, the primary conversion goal is extracting the dataset for analysis. The best approach is exporting to XML or CSV directly through the Nucleonica web suite, which allows for import into spreadsheet software or scientific graphing tools. For MyDraw users, the friction lies in collaboration. To make these files accessible, you should convert the library to the VSSX (Visio Stencil) format using MyDraw's export function, or export specific diagrams to PDF for non-editable viewing. Attempting to force an .nlb file open in the wrong software (e.g., opening a nuclide file in a diagramming tool) will result in immediate errors or binary garbage code.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NLB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NLBL, PDF, DOCX, ZIP, XAPK, ACSM, SSBOARD and ALB files.

The NLB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NLB converter.
