Convert a file to RUI
To convert other file formats to the "Firmware Update File" file type, you need software like Rhinoceros 3D or a similar tool.
About RUI files
The .RUI file extension is highly fragmented and primarily serves two entirely different purposes: a hardware firmware update or an application-specific user interface configuration. Most commonly, it acts as a router firmware update file for hardware manufactured by Arcadyan, or as firmware for video surveillance systems and Samsung TVs. Alternatively, it is widely used as a Rhinoceros User Interface file by Rhinoceros 3D to store custom workspace layouts, toolbars, and menus using standard XML structuring.
The main disadvantage of .RUI files is their extreme lack of interoperability. Firmware .RUI files are proprietary, compiled binary blobs. They are strictly designed to be read by specific hardware devices during an update sequence. Opening them on a standard computer is useless without reverse-engineering tools. Converting a firmware file to another format will destroy its code structure and brick your hardware. Meanwhile, Rhinoceros UI files are simple XML documents. While readable, they are strictly tied to Rhino's proprietary software architecture. You cannot convert Rhino UI settings into functional workspaces for other 3D modeling programs like AutoCAD or Blender.
Because of this fragmentation and proprietary lock-in, standard online converters fail to process .RUI files. Firmware files are closed binaries, meaning only the original hardware device can interpret the data correctly. We analyze the file headers to determine if it is a binary firmware update or a text-based UI file. If our analysis detects the underlying XML structure of a Rhino UI file, viewing the raw code or converting it to TXT or XML is entirely possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RUI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RUI file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Rhinoceros 3D or similar software from the "Firmware Update & UI Settings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to RUI, try Rhinoceros 3D or another comparable tool in the "Firmware Update & UI Settings" category.
The RUI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RUI converter.
