Convert a file to ACE
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Archive Format" file type, you need software like WinAce or a similar tool.
About ACE files
The .ACE file format is primarily known as a proprietary compressed archive created by the WinAce archiver, or as a texture file for Microsoft Train Simulator. The WinAce archive format once offered high compression but is now totally obsolete. The official software was discontinued in 2007. More critically, a severe security vulnerability involving the UNACEV2.DLL file caused modern tools like WinRAR to completely drop support for extracting .ACE archives. This means .ACE files are currently extremely difficult to open securely on modern operating systems, posing a major compatibility and security headache. To access the archive contents safely, you must convert the file to a standardized, secure format like ZIP or 7Z. For users dealing with Microsoft Train Simulator textures, the .ACE format is unreadable by web browsers and standard image viewers. You must convert these textures to PNG or DDS for editing in tools like Adobe Photoshop. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your ACE file.

The ACE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ACE converter.
