Extract text from Archive files (CBA)

The .CBA file extension primarily represents either a ChessBase Archive used by ChessBase software or a Comic Book ACE Archive created with the legacy WinACE archiver. Less commonly, it acts as a Microsoft Jet Database Engine file for the ComicBase collection software or a settings file for CryENGINE. ChessBase .CBA files store chess game annotations, board setups, and database archives for professional chess analysis. Comic Book ACE Archives wrap static images (usually JPEG or PNG) in an ACE compression container for sequential viewing.
Working with .CBA files introduces immediate challenges. ChessBase archives are highly proprietary and locked to a specific, expensive Windows-based software ecosystem. If you do not own the software, the data is virtually inaccessible. Comic Book ACE archives suffer from severe obsolescence; the core WinACE software has not been updated since 2007. More importantly, modern archive utilities (like 7-Zip) entirely dropped support for ACE files in 2019 due to critical path-traversal security vulnerabilities found in the UNACEV2.DLL library.
To bypass these limitations, converting your files is essential. For chess data, converting to the universal PGN (Portable Game Notation) format ensures maximum compatibility across open-source and web-based chess engines, although some proprietary ChessBase styling might be lost. For comic archives, extracting the images and repacking them into a CBZ (ZIP-based) format is highly recommended for security and compatibility with modern readers. Because these formats are closed, proprietary, or structurally obsolete, standard online converters usually fail to process them.
