About ZPF files
The .ZPF extension is a classic example of file format collision, serving three distinct, incompatible purposes that often confuse users.
Most commonly (approx. 32%), a .ZPF file is a Zumtobel Product File, an XML-based container used by Zumtobel and Thorn Lighting. These files package photometric data, dimensional drawings, and mounting instructions for lighting fixtures. While they are technically text-based XML, the schema is proprietary. Architects and engineers frequently struggle to view the data without installing specific plugins for DIALux or Relux. If you simply need to read the specifications without specialized CAD lighting software, converting the XML content to a readable PDF or TXT format is the most practical workflow.
Secondly (approx. 27%), .ZPF refers to a Zelda Practice File or patch seed generated by the Ocarina of Time Randomizer. These are not playable game ROMs. They are small binary patch files containing the logic for item randomization (the "seed"). Users often mistakenly try to load these directly into an N64 emulator like Project64. To use them, you must "patch" a base Z64 ROM file using the randomizer software to generate a playable game file.
Finally (approx. 24%), the format serves as a project archive for the legacy StruCad detailing software by AceCad. These are often just renamed ZIP archives containing structural steel drawings and data. Since StruCad has been largely superseded by STRUMIS, opening these legacy archives can be difficult. Renaming the extension to ZIP allows you to extract the internal engineering files, though converting the proprietary drawing formats inside requires specific CAD interoperability tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZPF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZPF file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Zumtobel Online Catalog or similar software from the "Lighting Product Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to ZPF, try Zumtobel Online Catalog or another comparable tool in the "Lighting Product Data" category.
The ZPF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZPF converter.
