To convert other file formats to the "Source Code File" file type, you need software like GNU Bison or a similar tool.
About Y files
A .y file typically contains grammar rules and source code used by parser generators like Yacc (Yet Another Compiler-Compiler) or GNU Bison. These files define the structural rules of a programming language or data format. They are usually compiled using GNU Bison or Yacc into standard C or CPP code.
As pure text-based developer files, .y files require specific command-line compiler tools to process into executable code. They are not easily readable for non-developers, and a single syntax error can break compilation entirely. Secondary uses of the .y extension include proprietary 3D models for games like Elsword or animated characters for AXYZ anima. These 3D variants are closed formats locked to their respective engines, meaning they often cannot be natively opened or exported in standard 3D software.
For developers, compiling to C or viewing the code as TXT or PDF is the most common workflow. However, because proprietary .y 3D models are difficult to open or convert, standard online converters often fail to process them.
Convert.Guru analyzes your Y file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted L, LEX, BIN, DELTA and X files.

The Y Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our Y converter.
