About XTP files
The .XTP extension creates confusion because it serves two very different professional industries, plus a few niche software communities.
- ID Card Templates (Primary): Most commonly, these are project files from HID Asure ID or Zebra XID Designer. They contain the layout, database connections, and magnetic stripe encoding logic for corporate ID badges.
- The Problem: These files are proprietary and locked to specific, often expensive, licensing ecosystems. You cannot view an .XTP badge design in standard viewers like Adobe Acrobat or web browsers. If you need to send a proof to a client or archive a design without maintaining a software subscription, you are stuck.
- The Solution: Convert these templates to PDF for universal viewing or PNG for quick web previews.
- AutoCAD Tool Palettes: A significant portion of .XTP files are settings exported from Autodesk AutoCAD.
- The Problem: While useful for sharing workspace tools between users, they are technically just structured text. Users often struggle to import them across different versions of AutoCAD.
- The Solution: Since these are actually XML files disguised with a different extension, you can often view the raw data by converting or renaming them to XML or opening them in a code editor like VS Code.
- Other Uses: In customization communities, an .XTP file might be a package for XWidget (which is essentially a ZIP file) or a saved xenotype from the game RimWorld (also XML data).
Convert.Guru analyzes your XTP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted XPT, XPG, PPTX, JPG, PNG, PDF, TXT, XMCD, CARD and ITP files.
The XTP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XTP converter.
