About XP3 files
The .XP3 file extension is exclusively associated with the KiriKiri (and KiriKiri Z) scripting engine, a widely used platform for developing Japanese visual novels (VN). These files function as proprietary containers - similar to a ZIP but optimized for the engine - bundling thousands of game assets including character sprites, background art, voice lines, background music, and scenario scripts.
Users typically encounter .XP3 files when attempting to mod a game, translate its script, or simply view the artwork outside the game engine. The primary constraint is that .XP3 archives are often encrypted or obfuscated to protect intellectual property, rendering them unreadable to standard archivers like 7-Zip or WinRAR. Attempting to open them without specific decryption keys often results in errors or garbled data. Furthermore, the internal image formats (often TLG) are not natively supported by standard image viewers.
To utilize these assets, the archive must be unpacked or converted. For visual assets, converting extracted TLG files to PNG or WEBP is ideal for web use and editing. For audio, converting internal streams to MP3 or WAV ensures compatibility with media players.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XP3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The XP3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XP3 converter.
