About XD files
A .XD file is a vector-based user interface design project created with Adobe XD, widely used for prototyping mobile apps and websites. These files encapsulate multiple artboards, vector graphics, text elements, and interactive prototyping linkages.
While powerful for designers, the .XD format presents significant hurdles for collaboration and archiving. It is a strictly proprietary format that requires the installation of Adobe XD - part of the paid Creative Cloud ecosystem - to view or edit. Furthermore, with Adobe shifting focus away from XD, long-term accessibility is a concern. Clients and developers often cannot open these files directly, creating friction during design handoffs.
To ensure accessibility, users should convert .XD files based on their immediate needs:
For Client Review & Archiving: Convert to PDF to preserve the layout of all artboards in a universally viewable document.
For Web Previews: Convert specific artboards to PNG or JPG or WebP for quick sharing via email or chat.
For Development: Extract icons and vector shapes as SVG files to ensure resolution-independent scalability in the final product.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XD file to SKETCH, PDF, PPT, HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP or JSPX, you can use Adobe XD or similar software from the "UI/UX Design & Prototyping" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to XD, try Adobe XD or another comparable tool in the "UI/UX Design & Prototyping" category.
The XD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XD converter.
