Most users encountering this file usually possess an XML Audit File (Auditfile Financieel), a specialized data standard widely used in the Netherlands for exchanging financial ledgers between accounting systems like Exact Online and tax authorities. While these are technically plain XML text files, they are structured for machine parsing, not human reading. Opening them in a text editor reveals a chaotic wall of tags that makes verifying financial data impossible. To audit the content manually or share it with stakeholders, you must convert the raw data into a structured XLSX spreadsheet or a PDF report.
Alternatively, an .XAF file may be an XML Animation File used by Autodesk 3ds Max or the open-source Cal3D library. These text-based files store skeletal animation data (bone movements) for 3D characters. While human-readable, they are inefficient compared to binary formats and often fail to load in modern engines like Unity or Unreal Engine.
