About IAF files
The .IAF (Internet Account File) is a legacy configuration format originally created by Microsoft Outlook Express to export email account settings. These files store critical connection details - including POP3/IMAP server addresses, port numbers, usernames, and encrypted passwords - allowing users to transfer accounts between computers. While useful in the Windows XP era, the .IAF format is now a "black box" for modern users.
Current versions of Microsoft Outlook (2016, 2019, 365) have dropped support for importing these files directly, and the format itself is not human-readable in Notepad due to binary headers and password encryption. Users typically encounter .IAF files when recovering data from old backups or attempting to migrate legacy email profiles to modern clients like Thunderbird or Gmail. Converting an .IAF file to TXT or CSV is the only practical way to view the locked settings and recover forgotten passwords without installing obsolete software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IAF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IAF file to PST, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV or PROPERTIES, you can use Microsoft Outlook Express or similar software from the "Email Account Settings Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to IAF, try Microsoft Outlook Express or another comparable tool in the "Email Account Settings Backup" category.
The IAF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IAF converter.
