About WUX files
The .WUX file is a Compressed Wii U Disk Image. It contains the complete, compressed data of a Nintendo Wii U game. Emulation enthusiasts use this format to save storage space while playing large console games on a PC. The primary software used to open and manage these files is the Cemu emulator, originally developed by Exzap. The .WUX format is highly specialized, proprietary to the Cemu ecosystem, and severely restricted by Nintendo's encryption. These files are typically gigabytes in size. They require specific Wii U title decryption keys to access, meaning standard archive tools cannot open them. Users often need to convert .WUX files back to the uncompressed .WUD format or extract the raw game data into standard code, content, and meta folders for game modding or long-term archival. Because it is a closed, encrypted format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original emulator or specialized decryption tools can properly read or export the game data.
