About SKS files
The .SKS file extension primarily represents an encrypted VPN configuration file used by the SocksHttp Android application and Shadowsocks. These files contain server connection details, payloads, and routing rules formatted internally as JSON. Alternatively, .SKS is used by Apple as a SpriteKit Scene file for 2D game development in Xcode. A smaller percentage of these files are associated with SICK safety scanner configurations, Singer Futura embroidery designs, and save data for various PC games like Starsector and Divinity: Original Sin 2. The main disadvantage of .SKS files is their proprietary and highly specialized nature. VPN config files are often encrypted or payload-locked by the creator to prevent users from extracting server IP addresses or passwords. SpriteKit Scene files are native only to the Apple ecosystem, meaning they cannot be opened natively on Windows or exported directly to other game engines like Unity or Godot. Singer embroidery files require outdated or highly specific software. Converting .SKS files is heavily restricted. VPN configs are not meant to be converted into human-readable text if they are locked. SpriteKit files can sometimes be parsed as XML or Plist text, but losing the visual node structure is inevitable if moved to another engine. Because these are closed, proprietary, or encrypted formats, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
