A .WKF file is primarily a VISI CAD work file used by Hexagon VISI CAD. These files store highly complex 3D surface modeling, solid modeling, and tooling data used in industrial mold making and stamping. In rare cases, a .WKF file acts as a tax preparation workpaper used by CCH ProSystem fx Tax or TaxACT to store financial return data and client forms.
The main disadvantage of the .WKF CAD format is its proprietary lock-in. It requires a costly software license to open, and the files are often excessively large, making them difficult to share. Because the binary structure is closed and undocumented, standard online converters consistently fail to process these files.
