Extract text from Alias 3D models (WIRE)
To convert WIRE models to another format, you need Autodesk Alias or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "NURBS Modeling File" file type, you need software like Autodesk Alias or a similar tool.
The .wire file is primarily an Autodesk Alias 3D model. It stores mathematically precise NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) geometry used for industrial and automotive design. Alternatively, a .wire file can be a user interface project created by the MockFlow wireframing tool.
This format has severe limitations for general use. The Autodesk Alias .wire format is heavily proprietary. It requires expensive enterprise software to open. The files often exceed hundreds of megabytes. You cannot view them in web browsers or standard 3D viewers. MockFlow files similarly require an active subscription to edit.
You must convert .wire files to collaborate with engineering teams. Converting to STEP or IGES preserves the mathematical NURBS surfaces for other CAD software. Converting to OBJ or FBX triangulates the model for rendering, but you lose the editable mathematical curves.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a closed system. Third-party tools cannot reliably read Autodesk's proprietary NURBS math. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can identify the file format and inspect the headers. If our analysis detects a ZIP-based MockFlow archive or extractable embedded assets, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
