About AIX files
The .aix file extension generally represents two completely different formats: an App Inventor Extension file and a Nintendo AIX Audio stream file. The primary use is for MIT App Inventor, a visual programming environment for building Android applications. Developers use .aix files to import custom components and extensions written in Java that are not available in the default block library. Internally, these are standard ZIP archives containing compiled Java classes and JSON configuration files. The secondary use is a proprietary audio format used by Nintendo for game audio streams on consoles like the GameCube and Wii. Users face several limitations with these files. For App Inventor developers, inspecting the source code or modifying the extension requires extracting the archive. However, standard extraction tools might not recognize the .aix extension immediately, requiring a manual rename to ZIP. For gamers and modders, .aix audio files are heavily proprietary. Standard media players cannot open them, requiring specialized software or emulation tools just to listen to a game soundtrack. To solve these issues, you need a conversion tool. For developers, extract the .aix to ZIP or raw text files to inspect the code. For audio extraction, convert the Nintendo stream to MP3 for web use, WAV for lossless editing, or FLAC for archiving. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The AIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AIX converter.
