About JAD files

A .JAD (Java Application Descriptor) file is a text-based manifest used to describe the contents of a Java ME (Micro Edition) Midlet. These files were the standard for installing games and applications on legacy feature phones (like older Nokia, Samsung, and BlackBerry devices).

The Problem: The .JAD file is merely a pointer; it contains metadata like the app size, version, vendor, and a URL to the actual executable, which is the JAR file. A common frustration users encounter is having only the .JAD file without its companion .JAR, making it impossible to run the application. Furthermore, modern operating systems like Windows 10, macOS, and Android dropped native support for J2ME years ago, meaning you cannot simply double-click to open them.

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your JAD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JAR, VXP, TXT, CHK, EXE, PLP, PDF, EX4, AAE, PKG and SER files.

The JAD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JAD converter.
