Convert a file to JAD
To convert other file formats to the "Java Application Descriptor" file type, you need software like Java ME SDK or a similar tool.
About JAD files
The .jad file format is primarily a Java Application Descriptor. It was used extensively in the legacy Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) to describe the contents of a jar (Java Archive) file for mobile phone applications, known as MIDlets. A smaller percentage of .jad files act as savegame files for the PC game Movie Business 2. The main problem with .jad files is that they are entirely obsolete. The Java ME ecosystem is dead, replaced by modern mobile environments like Android and iOS. Furthermore, a .jad file does not contain actual game or application code; it is merely a plain text metadata file containing attributes like file size, app name, and the URL to download the actual application. Users often mistakenly believe the .jad file alone can run the app, leading to frustration. To make use of legacy Java apps on modern devices, users look to convert them. For running on Android, you can convert the associated jar and .jad pair to an APK using wrappers. If you just need to read the metadata, convert it to TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your JAD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert JAD file to JAR, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use Java ME SDK or similar software from the "Java ME App Metadata Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to JAD, try Java ME SDK or another comparable tool in the "Java ME App Metadata Storage" category.
The JAD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JAD converter.
