About VRCA files

A .VRCA file is a proprietary VRChat Avatar archive, technically structured as a Unity Asset Bundle. These files serve as the final, compiled container for 3D character models, textures, shaders, and animations uploaded to the VRChat servers. Because the .VRCA format is designed for runtime loading within the Unity engine, it acts as a "baked" output rather than an editable project file. This creates a significant hurdle for creators: if the original Unity project folder is lost or corrupted, the .VRCA file cannot simply be opened in Blender or Unity for modification. It is a binary blob utilizing UnityFS compression (often LZ4 or LZMA), making it unreadable to standard 3D modeling software. To recover or repurpose content, users must "rip" or convert the internal assets. For editing the 3D geometry, the target format is almost exclusively FBX or OBJ. For recovering textures, converting to PNG or TGA is standard. While direct conversion restores the raw assets, complex metadata like Dynamic Bones, constraints, and custom shader properties are often lost or require manual reconstruction.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VRCA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted __DATA, UNITYPACKAGE, FBX, RAR, ZIP, TXT, ASSET, VRCW, 7Z, RESS, JPG, VRM and PKG files.

The VRCA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VRCA converter.
