About VRCA files
A .VRCA file is a VRChat Avatar asset bundle built on the internal UnityFS file system. Created in the Unity Editor using the VRChat SDK, these files store the compiled 3D meshes, textures, animations, and custom shaders required to render a user's character within VRChat. Users typically need to convert or extract .VRCA files when they lose their original Unity project files and need to edit their avatar. The main disadvantage of the .VRCA format is that it is a 'baked,' proprietary binary archive. It cannot be directly imported into standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya. Standard online 3D converters fail because a .VRCA is essentially an archive containing multiple sub-assets, not a single geometry file. If you need to recover your work, the best conversion targets are FBX or OBJ for the 3D models, and PNG for the textures. Note that complex metadata, such as VRChat SDK constraints, Dynamic Bones, and custom shader configurations, will likely be lost and require manual reconstruction. Because this file format is a compiled game engine asset, it is exceptionally difficult to open outside of specialized ripping tools. Often, only the original software can properly read the data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VRCA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VRCA file to FBX, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP or SAV, you can use VRChat or similar software from the "VRChat 3D Avatar Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to VRCA, try VRChat or another comparable tool in the "VRChat 3D Avatar Storage" category.
The VRCA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VRCA converter.
