About UUE files
.UUE files contain binary data that has been converted into plain text using the Unix-to-Unix Encoding (uuencode) scheme. Historically, this format allowed users to send binary files via email or Usenet, which originally only supported plain text. They can be opened and decoded by archiving software like WinRAR or 7-Zip. See Wikipedia: Uuencoding for technical history. Today, .UUE is largely obsolete because modern email uses Base64 and MIME. The primary disadvantage of the format is its security risk. Malicious actors frequently use it to obfuscate malicious RAR archives or executables to bypass basic email security scanners. Opening unknown .UUE files locally can compromise your system. Furthermore, uuencoding inflates the original file size by roughly 35% and lacks native support in modern operating systems.
