About TX_ files

A .tx_ file is essentially a standard text document (README.txt or License.txt) that has been compressed using Microsoft's legacy compression algorithms to save space on installation media or inside driver packages. You will typically encounter these when browsing through the installation folders of system drivers (like Synaptics or ELAN touchpads) or older Windows installation discs.

The frustrating part is that while it looks like a text file, you cannot open it in Notepad or Microsoft Word; attempting to do so displays unreadable binary symbols. This is because the file is locked inside a compression wrapper (indicated by the underscore replacing the final letter of the extension). Unlike standard ZIP files, Windows Explorer does not natively let you double-click to peek inside. To read the contents, the file must be "expanded" back to its original state. For immediate access, you should convert (decompress) the file to a standard TXT. Advanced users can use the command-line expand utility, but third-party archivers like 7-Zip are often easier for casual extraction.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TX_ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TX, PDF, AIP, 001 and SHA files.

The TX_ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TX_ converter.
