About AIP files

The .AIP file extension is most commonly associated with Advanced Installer Project files developed by Caphyon. These files store configuration settings in XML format to generate Windows installer packages (MSI or EXE). A significant secondary use for .AIP is as an Adobe Illustrator Plugin, which adds specific tools, effects, or hardware support to Adobe Illustrator (Wikipedia). Other rare uses include sealed electronic documents from Dianju i-Seal, PAX POS terminal packages, and AGTEK construction project files.

Handling .AIP files is problematic because they are highly application-specific. Opening an Advanced Installer project requires the exact software version it was created in, otherwise, compilation can fail or throw errors. Similarly, Adobe Illustrator plugins are compiled binaries that only work with specific releases of Illustrator and cannot be edited natively. They are completely useless outside of their parent ecosystem, cannot be viewed in standard web browsers, and require specialized software to parse.

To extract data or inspect the contents, conversion or extraction is often necessary. For Advanced Installer files, you can convert or export the inner structures to XML for text inspection or compile them directly to MSI or EXE for deployment.
