About AIP files
The .AIP extension represents a distinct technical challenge because it serves three completely unrelated functions in professional workflows. Most commonly, it is an Advanced Installer Project file created by Caphyon Advanced Installer. These are XML-formatted text files that act as the "source code" for building Windows installers (MSI or EXE packages). Users often attempt to "run" an .AIP file expecting software to install, but fail because the file is merely a static set of instructions - like a recipe rather than the meal itself. To execute the installation, you must compile the project using the paid Advanced Installer software, which creates a significant barrier for users who just want to access the data or deployment logic without purchasing a license.
Alternatively, an .AIP file may be an Adobe Illustrator Plug-in. Unlike standard AI vector files, these are compiled binaries (similar to DLL or EXE files) that add functionality to the software. They cannot be converted into images or edited; they must be placed in the specific application folder to function. A third less common variation is a "sealed" electronic document created by Dianju i-Seal, used for proprietary digital rights management, which intentionally prevents standard conversion to lock down content.
Conversion Solutions:
- For Project Files: If you need to review the installation logic without the software, convert the .AIP to PDF or TXT to make the XML structure readable.
- For Plugins: These generally cannot be converted. If you are trying to view an image, you likely have the wrong file; look for an AI or EPS file instead.
- For Archived Docs: Proprietary sealed documents often require the original i-Seal viewer, making standard conversion to DOCX impossible without specific decryption tools.

The AIP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AIP converter.
