About TRK files

The .TRK extension serves three distinct, incompatible purposes, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them. Most commonly (66%), it is a Beatport Track Reference file, serving as a shortcut or metadata container within the Beatport ecosystem rather than a playable audio file like MP3 or WAV. This proprietary lock-in means you cannot simply play these files in standard media players without the original software.

In the gaming world, .TRK files are Replay files generated by DCS World (Digital Combat Simulator). These are ZIP-compressed archives containing mission data and inputs, not actual video footage. Users often attempt to upload these directly to YouTube, only to find they are unreadable; they must be played back in-engine and screen-recorded to create an MP4.

Finally, for hikers and navigators, .TRK is a legacy GPS Track Log format used by apps like AlpineQuest and older Garmin devices. These files are often incompatible with modern platforms like Strava, Google Earth, or Garmin Connect. To visualize your route on a modern map, you must convert these .TRK logs to standardized GPX (GPS Exchange Format) or KML (Keyhole Markup Language) files.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TRKZ, TRCK, GPX, LDK, 000, PDF, PGD, WPT, QMD, PY, DXF, FRP and TRC files.

The TRK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database.
