About TRK files
The .TRK file extension is highly fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly, it acts as a Beatport track reference file for the Beatport DJ web application. In other frequent use cases, it functions as a GPS track log file used by navigation apps like AlpineQuest, CompeGPS, and Garmin devices to store raw route coordinates. Additionally, it is heavily used as a combat flight simulator replay file in DCS World and as an XML-based video analysis file in Open Source Physics Tracker.
The main disadvantage of the .TRK format is its complete lack of standardization. A GPS .TRK file from Garmin will likely fail to open in AlpineQuest, and a Beatport .TRK is utterly useless outside its proprietary ecosystem. Furthermore, DCS World replays are constantly mistaken for video files by users, but they strictly contain engine telemetry data and user inputs, not actual video footage. Users frequently encounter errors when trying to open or share these files because they are tightly locked to the original software and lack native browser or OS support.
If you need to share GPS routes, converting .TRK to universally supported formats like GPX or KML is the only reliable path forward. For DCS World telemetry files, converting directly to video is technically impossible; you must record your screen while the replay runs in-game.
Because this file format is heavily fragmented and context-dependent, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis engine can detect if your .TRK file is actually a hidden ZIP archive (like DCS replays) or standard XML (like Physics Tracker files), allowing you to extract the embedded data safely.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TRK file to GPX, KML, TCK, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG or CONF, you can use Beatport DJ or similar software from the "Track Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to TRK, try Beatport DJ or another comparable tool in the "Track Data Storage" category.
The TRK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TRK converter.
