Convert TP3 to another file type
To convert TP3 3D models to another format, you need Topcon 3D Office or other 3D software.
Convert a file to TP3
To convert other file formats to the "Machine Control Project File" file type, you need software like Topcon 3D Office or a similar tool.
About TP3 files
A .TP3 file is primarily a Topcon 3D machine control project file. It stores 3D surface models, site linework, and alignment data used by heavy construction machinery equipped with GPS or robotic total stations. It serves as the digital blueprint for excavators and bulldozers on modern job sites. A minor legacy use is for old Harvard Graphics DOS presentation templates. You need Topcon 3D Office or MAGNET Office to natively open and modify these files. The biggest disadvantage of the .TP3 format is its strictly proprietary nature. It is heavily locked into the Topcon ecosystem. Files are often unreadable by standard CAD platforms like AutoCAD or Civil 3D without dedicated plugins. Because it contains specialized machine-control instructions alongside geometry, standard file viewers and web browsers cannot process the data. To share the data with non-Topcon users, you must convert the file to open or standard formats. DXF or DWG are best for linework and standard geometry. LandXML (XML) is the optimal target for preserving 3D surface networks (TINs) and alignments. Point data can often be extracted to CSV. Note that exporting to these formats strips away machine-specific calibration and control metadata. Because this format is a closed, proprietary database, standard online converters fail completely. They lack the Topcon CAD engine required to read the binary structure. We can inspect the file headers, identify embedded strings or points, and help you confirm its exact version. If our analysis detects an underlying format that can be parsed, partial data extraction might still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TP3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TP3 file to DWG, DXF, CSV, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9 or PM10, you can use Topcon 3D Office or similar software from the "3D Machine Control Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to TP3, try Topcon 3D Office or another comparable tool in the "3D Machine Control Project" category.
The TP3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TP3 converter.
