Convert TNT to another file type
To convert TNT 3D files to another format, you need TNT or other Data software.
Convert a file to TNT
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific & Spatial Data" file type, you need software like TNT or a similar tool.
About TNT files
The .TNT file extension is highly fragmented and used across several specialized scientific and gaming platforms. Its most common use is as a phylogenetic analysis data matrix used by TNT (Tree analysis using New Technology) to calculate and reconstruct evolutionary trees. It is also used as a 3D model and GIS project file by TNTmips, a geospatial analysis software developed by MicroImages. Other specialized uses include NMR/MRI spectrometer data files from Tecmag, character color tint files for the BioWare Aurora Engine, and neurophysiology experiment notes from Tucker-Davis Technologies (TDT).
The primary disadvantage of a .TNT file is its extreme lack of standardization. Because multiple unrelated applications share the exact same extension, operating systems frequently assign the wrong default program, leading to file read errors. The formats are largely proprietary and isolated. For example, TNTmips GIS data requires specific legacy software to open, while TNT phylogenetic matrices use idiosyncratic syntax that standard text editors display as unformatted blocks of text.
To make this data accessible, conversion is highly recommended. For phylogenetic data, convert .TNT to NEX (Nexus), FST (FASTA), or plain TXT to guarantee compatibility with broader bioinformatics tools like Mesquite. For TNTmips spatial data, export or convert to SHP (Shapefile), KML, or OBJ for modern 3D and GIS workflows.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TNT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TNT file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use TNT or similar software from the "Phylogenetic and GIS Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to TNT, try TNT or another comparable tool in the "Phylogenetic and GIS Data Storage" category.
The TNT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TNT converter.
