The .tm extension serves two distinct, high-tech industries, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them. Most commonly, it represents a Google Teachable Machine project - a compressed archive containing neural network metadata and model weights. While powerful for AI, these files are proprietary containers; you cannot simply double-click to view the model's logic or images without the specific Google web interface or a TensorFlow.js coding environment. The second major use is for Twinmotion by Epic Games, used in architectural visualization. These are heavy, complex 3D scene files containing lighting, textures, and geometry. The main limitation here is hardware and software lock-in: viewing a Twinmotion .tm file requires a high-end GPU and a licensed installation, making it impossible to share directly with clients or view on mobile devices.
To overcome these hurdles, conversion is the best path. For Teachable Machine files, users often convert (or extract) to JSON and BIN to deploy the model in apps, or simply to ZIP to inspect the contents.
