About TCW files
A .TCW file is the native proprietary drawing format for TurboCAD, a CAD application developed by IMSI/Design. These files contain precise 2D drafting layouts, 3D models, wireframes, and shading data based on the Microsoft Compound File structure. While .TCW is powerful for users within the IMSI ecosystem, it presents significant barriers for external collaboration. The format is proprietary, meaning industry-standard software like AutoCAD or MicroStation cannot open it natively. This creates friction when sharing designs with engineers, architects, or clients who do not own a TurboCAD license. To overcome this interoperability gap, users should convert .TCW files to DWG or DXF for editing in other CAD platforms, or to PDF and JPG for universal viewing and printing.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TCW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted TWC, DXF, PDF, DWG, ZIP, DWL, TCD, FILE, DCD, TSX, BAK, DGN and SDF files.
The TCW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TCW converter.
